Our First Open Water Dive In Utila, Honduras

We completed our First Open Water Dive under the ocean today! Words cannot express the unreal / surreal experience we had today. We both felt in awe and wonder at what's under the surface here. The reef was teeming with life, and the visibility was excellent. We did a morning dive in the confined area at the end of the dock. It was cool getting in the water, and seeing fish swimming around. We saw an octopus in a hole, a barracuda and a school of yellow snapper. It was really comfortable in the water.

Our First Open Water Dive

After an hour break (lunch) we headed out on the boat for the first time to see the reef in our first open water dive.  We got suited up and went off the back of the boat and all of a sudden... quiet... peaceful... beautiful...
It is an experience we will never forget. We saw a lot of really cool things today.  We saw some type of sting ray, angel fish, a giant puffer fish, Huge Tarpons (small school), a grouper, and tons of other fish, I couldn't identify. It wasn't even the fish that amazed me the most. It's the coral reef. It was almost made me feel insignificant next to such a huge living entity such as coral reef. Not like a forest where trees are living things.... this reef is alive. We saw black coral which is I hear is rare. We saw every color in the spectrum today, on two dives that were just amazing. We are tired though. This can take it out of you. 3 dives in a day may be too much for a novice like us.

Tomorrow, we have two dives early in the morning, and then at 1pm we are going to go on the elusive Whale Shark expedition. The conditions are perfect, as long as the wind is low tomorrow. Which it has been. They all saw whale sharks yesterday and even got video of it.  We love this and both feel like complete naturals. More to come tomorrow!!!
